Empty Shops Project
The Empty Shops Project is a community arts programme that uses vacant retail shops and turns them into creative spaces and workshops for all to see and do. In doing so, the intention is help regenerate Newport’s retail centre with ingenious, thought-provoking arts.
During August 2010 I was granted use of the old Coral Bookmakers premises based on Upper Dock Street in the City Centre for a 2 week period.
A total of almost 550 people visited the shop during this time and left some wonderful comments that have inspired me to continue with my artwork.
I also made numerous contacts and was given some excellent suggestions regarding art groups, potential gallery space and avenues for potential sales.
